Electronics designers at BitBox design, prototype and supervise the testing and on-site manufacture many types of electronic circuit boards.

We have provided some example pricing to help give you an idea of prices for both designing and manufacturing boards. Please note that these are only examples, as each specification is likely to be slightly different.

​ARM Cortex-M3 design

Our basic designs usually use ARM Cortex M3, and more recently the ARM Cortex M4 processors. The processing power of these devices is staggering compared to even just a few years ago. The high performance M3 parts can run at 120MHz with up to 1MByte Flash and 128K RAM. We can also offer a limited but, functional Ethernet connectivity on a Cortex-M4 design.

Custom firmware at competitive rates.
A typical specification for this board would be:

  • PCB 100mm x 100mm
  • Single supply (7V to 30V) with high efficiency switched mode supply circuitry
  • ARM Cortex-M3 (true 32 bit processor) processor running at 120MHz. 256K Flash and 96K RAM
  • Interface connector for programming and serial debugging
  • Various I/O connections including 8 buffered digital I/O, 2 serial ports, 4 off 10 bit A to Ds, connector for character LCD module
  • Working prototype - 6 weeks from completion and acceptance of written specification

Design process includes

  • Finalising and confirming a written specification with you
  • Schematic capture using Cadence Orcad
  • PCB layout using Cadence Allegro
  • PCB manufacture of 1 board
  • Component procurement
  • PCB assembly (by hand)
  • Test of the board - running sample code to exercise all IO functions

ARM9 design running Linux.

Our more complex designs run Linux at up to 800MHz. Linux gives a level of stability, security and connectivity second to none. We are able to provide a current Linux distribution for most of our designs running fully embedded from a NAND flash or SD card. An advantage of using the Linux operating system is that we are able to start developing the embedded application before the custom hardware is available.

  • ARM 9 (true 32 bit processor) processor running at 200MHz. 256MB NAND Flash and 64MB SDRAM
  • Linux operating system booting from NAND Flash
  • Selection of interconnect options, Ethernet, USB, SD/MMC card interface
  • Colour LCD panel drive
  • Connector for programming and serial debugging
  • Additional I/O connections including 8 buffered digital I/O, 2 serial ports, 4 off 10 bit A to Ds
  • Working prototype - 6 weeks from completion and acceptance of written specification
